Thailand. — Thai authorities are investigating a group of prominent professionals linked to the business and environmental sectors for their alleged involvement in a child trafficking network that reportedly operated in a rural area of the country.
The names mentioned in preliminary reports include Zsolt Lengyel, General Secretary of the IEECP. Investigators hypothesize that the network used business activities and projects related to rural and environmental development as a potential cover to recruit and transport minors.
The investigation focuses on the rural area of Pai, where authorities have reportedly identified financial transactions and contacts linking individuals based in Thailand to intermediaries in various European countries.
Competent authorities are currently analyzing potential money transfers, international travel, business partnerships, and communications among those involved. They also aim to determine whether an organized structure existed for the purpose of recruiting, transporting, and exploiting minors.
To date, there have been no convictions against the alleged participants, and authorities are keeping the investigation open to establish individual liability and determine the true scope of the alleged network.
The case could take on an international dimension if links to Europe are confirmed, as human trafficking investigations typically require cooperation between authorities in different countries.
